We are your teamWe are Brian and Susan Ward and fell in love with Spain during a holiday several years ago. We decided that we wanted a long term goal to aim for and this was to be a dream home in the sun. Over the last 4 years we have spent most of our free time checking out areas along the coast from Marbella up to Barcelona. We flew into Malaga and hired a car and set off on a journey exploring the towns and villages throughout Spain. We did not book any accomodation and just stopped in locations that we found interesting and found local hotels. We checked out coastal town and villages in the mountains, we looked at apartments by the beach and villas nestled in the mountains with there own pools. The first time we travelled we did not make appointments with any specific estate agents we just checked out locations. We visited some of the areas which are currently identified as the top selling locations in Spain. The costs associated with travelling and surveying areas were high but we knew that the house and location were key to satisfying our dream criteria.
After spending many hours trolling through most of the estate agents websites, we highlighted prospective properties in many of the areas between Marbella and Barcelona and arranged another trip, but this time we also made appointments with three estate agents to view specific properties that we had seen on the internet. The estate agents where based locally in each area we had chosen to view spending two days viewing village type houses around Velez Malaga, and small villa in the surrounding countryside. Moving on up the coast to Alicante to view some cheaper properties which were in a location close to where some friends of ours were already based. The most interesting of properties was a farmhouse - 33,000 sq.mt !! at a cost of € 235K it took us over an hour just to walk around the land which was heavily populated with olive, almond, lemon, orange and many other fruit trees, unfortunately the house itself was not up to much.
We were very surprised that the majority of properties did not come close to the impression given by the descriptions and photographs. A lot more to come! Our personal search stopped on the outskirts of a village named Periana, about 15 miles inland from Velez Malaga.
Periana although inland, overlooks Lake Vinuela and you can also see the Mediterranean Sea at Tor De Mar. |
